As my mind was racing about the holi-daze officially taking residence in my head, I was inspired to de-clutter the thoughts and wanted to write about the true meaning and share some thoughts about people and events that have stayed with me. It's like an inspiration journal, only the format will be one poem or thought per day until Christmas - starting now.
The Sundown Rundown (the view from the Brooklyn projects)
Roaches on the tiles
Will not dissuade the smiles
Junkies on the stairs
And nobody cares
The elevator smells like pee
The desperation is too much to see
Her hope is strong and she is a queen
Who has seen way too much by the age of sixteen
She has a beautiful heart and big brown eyes
She has taught me a lot and I 've heard her cries
This girl shines brightly and her future is vast
Our special friendship was meant to last
She never complains and never asks why
All she can see is the sunset in the sky
