Wait, there's something different about .....

I've notice a few differences between NYC and Florida. If you reside in either one, I hope that you can find some humor in my findings. I'd love your comments!

Tone on the street:

FLA: The street is the beach. Strangers talk about the sunset and how it's what life is all about.

NYC: I once told a man on the sidewalk to get off the phone because he ran into me. He told me to fuck off. Thank you very much. You have a good night too, charm blossom.

Housing:

FLA: A cheery, pleasant real estate agent showed me three options in a day, including my current home, which is a two bedroom townhouse in a resort community. Done deal. (Thank you Rebecca Dunleavy from Berkshire Hathaway.)

NYC: There is nothing, and I mean nothing, like an apartment search in NYC. I looked at 20 + apartments before I found one that was in my budget and didn't make me feel sad and defeated. Some of the questions from the agents included: "Do you need a kitchen or is a burner ok" , "Currently the tenant showers in a steel bin, but I can put a shower in if you need one." This list goes on for miles. More later.

Culture:

FLA: Sorry Floridians - NYC has this one all wrapped up. And yes, I know you don't need the NYC brats to tell you all about it :)

NYC: You already know that you can walk out your door and get inspired at any point. I'm convinced that the art of the hustle started here and will end here. There is nothing like it in the world.

Cost of living:

FLA : No state tax, affordable rent.

NYC: High taxes, high rent.

Employment:

FLA: I went on an interview a couple of days ago and had to ask the manager to please repeat the salary. My inner voice was asking - "surely you meant to multiply that number by 2?" She didn't.

NYC: Good jobs, good money, a variety of industries. And if you make 100K - you can get that studio or tiny one bedroom apartment in Manhattan and have some money left over for a gallon of milk.

Grocery shopping:

FLA: Yesterday an employee went

out of her way to tell me about a holiday gift bag that is going to be such a better deal than anything at Hallmark.

NYC: I got hit in the back of the leg with a shopping cart and the woman said , " I don't know what to tell you. You're walking to slow. This is NYC". And can someone pleeeeaasse tell me why blueberries were $8.00. I never needed them to be precious.

Transportation:

FLA: I drive on clean roads and look out at palm trees, beautiful landscaping, the Everglades, and the Gulf of Mexico.

NYC: I rode the subway and it was pretty normal to be so packed in that you were touching someone, getting breathed on, and everyone was hating it. The subway platforms were not for the faint hearted. I'll spare the details.

Dating: DEF a story for another day. It's getting late.

Friendships:

FLA: Can't wait to meet you! New girl in town.

NYC: I meant some true blues in NYC and I'm so grateful. You know who you are!

Street Art:

Examples below:

See below for a slightly different tone. From the side of a building in the East Village in Manhattan to a water tank in Goodland, Florida.

The part when the lady hit you with her shopping cart and then blamed you for walking too slow lol I can’t stop laughing. I could just imagine you standing there looking at her like wtf!

Love your comparisons between NYC and FL. No you don't make as much money but you save what you can and visit NYC for a weekend and take in all its iconic culture. Great fun every time!
